SS22 - Halfway Already? 3 Rounds To Go in the Cervelo Super Series!

This year’s Cervelo Super Series is a condensed one, due in part to the recent Road World Championships in Wollongong when we would have traditionally started in September, with 7 rounds of racing taking place over 5 weekends between October 2 and November 13. It’s crazy to say but just three weeks after we started, we’re already past the halfway point! See below for a roundup of where each of the Elite categories of racing is at this point.

ELITE WOMEN

It’s been a tough gig for anyone in the Elite Women’s race who’s not on the Adelaide Women’s Racing Team spearheaded by last year’s Series winner, ASH ANKUDINOFF. They took out the HOYTS Team Time Trial before NICOLA MACDONALD took hold of the Blackchrome Leader’s Jersey with a win in the HOYTS Road Race later that afternoon at The Bend Motorsport Park. Norwood’s TORI BARRY took a decisive win at the Wallaroo Road Race in R3, but it was a long solo move from MACDONALD in Moonta that would net her a second race win in three races and hold on to the jersey. ANKUDINOFF sits comfortably in second place in the GC standings with Inform TMX Make’s ELLA SIBLEY 18 points off the lead in third spot. It’s looking like a runaway for the Adelaide Women’s Racing Team in the fight for the Team Rings, they take a 137-point lead over Norwood CC into the final three rounds of competition. With 6 sprints and 18 points on the line still in the Series, the Mischief Brew Sprint Classification is still up for grabs, though a handy lead to NICOLA MACDONALD may prove easy enough for her team to defend and deliver the jersey come R7. ELLA SIBLEY leads the Adelaide Bike Fit Young Rider Classification over ALLI ANDERSON and SUMMER NORDMEYER (both Adelaide Women’s Racing Team) and ASH ANKUDINOFF has a 2-point lead over NICOLE MITSIGEORGIS in the Alpha Box & Dice Masters Classification.

ELITE MEN

The Elite Men’s races at our 4 rounds of the 2022 Cervelo Super Series this year have been seriously diverse, with only three riders able to score points in all 4 rounds so far – and they just so happen to be the top three steps on the Blackchrome GC podium! TIM ROE is Villawood’s best-placed rider in 3rd overall, with OLIVER BLEDDYN sitting pretty in second spot from the SASI team while JASON THOMASON holds the Leader’s Jersey with a 9-point lead. It was the SASI team who took line honours at the Team Time Trial before ROKiT Racing’s SHAUN CASH took the win from a breakaway group at The Bend Motorsport Park for R2. A big win for Villawood’s JOSH EDEN at Wallaroo set the team up for a great showing throughout the Copper Coast Cup, and it was an individual rider who’d travelled over from Perth in KYE BOSNER who would take out the coveted Moonta Criterium win, showing a clean pair of hills to the locals duking it out for points. Villawood have a handy 21-point lead over SASI in the Teams Classification, who are out this year with something to prove after finishing last year’s Series without scoring a single Teams point. CHRIS LUXTON has a handy lead in the Mischief Brew Sprint Classification, while OLIVER BLEDDYN is in a tough fight with teammate ANGUS MILLER for the Adelaide Bike Fit Young Rider Classification. In the Alpha Box & Dice Masters Classification, there’s only one point separating 1st and 4th, so the wine is very much still up for grabs there.
