2020 Super Series Update: August 24 - Confirmation of Rounds & Dates

9 Rounds of Racing

With the threat of COVID-19 always looming here in South Australia, we were taken aback when it looked like we wouldn’t be able to use Pakapakanthi at all for the Super Series in 2020. As the home of criterium racing in SA and an integral part of the Super Series both as a comfortable place for racers and organisers alike, it was quite a blow! However, we have confirmed with the Adelaide City Council that we will be able to deliver Rounds 1 and 9 at Pakapakanthi as planned on the short course. Round 5, Vic Park XL, will no longer be run as planned and will instead be moved to another location – this is yet to be confirmed but will be announced as soon as we can. As per the Draft Tech Regs, Round 9 is Elite-Only and this is reflected in their entry pricing.

All Elite, Cat 1 and Cat 2 Team Entries have now been invoiced at their final rates (unchanged from the Team Entry Information) with Earlybird entries honoured due to the delay in round confirmations.

Category 3 Racing

While we were very keen to offer Category 3 racing at the Super Series this year, unfortunately no Category 3 grade has had enough team entries to offer the grade as a full Super Series race. We will be able to offer two individual Category 3 races (Men’s/Masters and Women’s) at 5 rounds of the Series and entries for those will be through Entryboss. If you are a Team Manager of what was going to be a Cat 3 team this year and would still like to pay the entries for your riders, you may do so – just email me and I’ll organise an invoice for you. Riders will be able to ride in whatever kit they like (including team kit) but are not allowed to ride collaboratively as a team.

Individuals at the Team Time Trial

We will offer an Individual Time Trial at Round II: Lenswood, and Individuals with a Series Pass will have the choice to either be entered into the Individual (Support) race, or to guest ride with a team for that round and receive that team’s awarded points based on their results. Individuals who race the Support race will be awarded the same number of points as riders in the last-placed team.

Please note, the date for the Lenswood Team Time Trial has changed to the Saturday of the same weekend – September 19 – one day earlier than previously advertised.

Full Round List

Round I: Criterium, Pakapakanthi, September 12. The Series will kick off with a criterium (not a Points Race this year!) for the teams to get acquainted with their grades and maybe assert some dominance early!

Round II: Team Time Trial, Lenswood, September 19. This round will add an Individual Support Race this year. The most polarising race of the Series, loved by some and loathed by others!

Round III: Road Race, Wallaroo, October 10. The first race of the Copper Coast Cup and the only race with gravel in it, this is always a highlight of the Super Series – voted most popular round to race in 2019!

Round IV: Criterium, Queen Sq, Moonta, October 11. An updated course in 2020 will make for interesting racing as we award the winners of the Copper Coast Cup.

Round V: October 17 or 18, TBC.

Round VI: Criterium, Aldinga Beach, October 31. New in 2019, we’re excited to return to Aldinga Beach with the support of the City of Onkaparinga!

Round VII: Kermesse, Gawler, November 8. An all-new course that we can guarantee has never been raced on before! More details to come about this one.

Round VIII: Criterium, Unley, November 22. You all raced it last year and the spectating was a great day out! With some works done to smooth up the road surface we’ll be taking all four corners flat out in 2020.

Round IX: Elite-Only Points Race, Pakapakanthi, December 4. To finish up the 2020 Super Series, the Elite grades will duke it out for a final grab at Series points in a Points Race, and we’ll present the Series winners for all grades all at once.
