Super Series 2020 Expressions of Interest Now Open!
After a whopper of a Super Series in 2019 with over 2150 total entries across the 8 rounds Cycling South Australia is busy planning for a spring 2020 Super Series. Although we have experienced massive disruption and uncertainty so far in 2020, we are planning on running a full series. After enduring calls for the addition of a few more hills, we’re excited to be working on a new kermesse venue in conjunction with a new host council, and plan on returning to 7 of the 8 courses we raced on last year. We have opened Expressions of Interest for both Team Managers AND Individuals this year, so we can get an idea of who is out there and wants to race!
Cycling South Australia aims to continue our trend of opening up the Series to as many riders as possible. To that end we expect to offer a similar grade structure to 2019 but hope to provide opportunities for Cat 3 Women and better depth in the men’s/masters grades. Please be aware that due to grading issues in 2019 team lists will face increased scrutiny in 2020, particularly in Cat 2 and 3 as we aim to create a competition that is fair for all.
The 2020 Super Series will be comprised of 8 rounds of racing in much the same format as last year, including the new kermesse venue, with the finale to be held as a ninth round where the Elite grades will be decided with a Points Race and the rest of the Super Series winners crowned (really we just wanted an excuse to throw a bit of a closing party after we hope what will be the best series yet.) We’re excited to work towards the return of racing in 2020!
Normally we would announce dates at this point, but with no concrete information on how the next few months will go in terms of restrictions on gatherings such as bike racing, we’ll be holding off on announcing dates for a little while. We are currently planning the 2020 Super Series to begin in September and conclude in early December, working around the proposed NRS calendars put forward by Cycling Australia.
For those unfamiliar with the team aspect of the Super Series, teams are generally made up of 8 riders on a roster with 4-6 of those riders starting most rounds. Teams are expected to race in matching jerseys, so if you and a handful of friends are all around the same ability level you can enter as a team in your grade as long as you nominate a jersey you’ll all be able to wear!

Expressions of Interest will be accepted until May 31, but we encourage anyone who is thinking of racing the Super Series in a team or on their own to submit their EOI as soon as possible to assist us with the organisation of grades. Fire up the group chat and submit your EOI here!
