2019 Super Series Set to Raise the Bar: September October Spectating!
The 2019 Super Series is back bigger and better than ever. Not only will the racing be hotter than before – but the spectating will be some of the best that you’ll find in the world. Across the categories, we’ll have a combination of local heroes and future stars racing against World Champions and Commonwealth Games Gold Medallists! The racing has been designed to be thrilling. We’ve curated some of our predicted highlights!
Round 1: Mischief Brew Points Race - Pakapakanthi - September 21st
If you’ve been around bike racing in Adelaide for a while, there is a chance that you’ve seen bike racing at Pakapakanthi before. The central location, fast course and setting always provide for excitement - but this time it will be different. Taking a points race format (a first as far as we are aware for criterium racing in South Australia), there will be sprints every four laps (a total of 43 across the senior program!) Each sprint has points allocated for placings, and the rider with the most points across the day gets the win, making for both a very hard and tactically complex race. The opening round of the series is always one of the hardest fought with every classification up for grabs, and everyone will be desperate to show their form at the start of the series.

Round 2: Altitude Cycling & Fitness TTT - Lenswood - September 29
Team Time Trials have never been the most exhilarating of race formats for spectators – but that’s probably because they don’t normally finish on an 16% hill. Get your cowbells out and cheer your favourites on as they battle gravity and each other to see who can get to the top of Stentiford Road the fastest.
Round 3 & 4 - The Copper Coast Cup - October 19/20
The Copper Coast cup has grown to be one of the flagship road events on the South Australian Calendar - the dirt roads of Round 3 have a history of tearing the race apart. What many might not know though is that the Sunday also makes for excellent viewing, with a technical crit around Moonta’s town centre, combined with the Taste the Yorke street festival it makes for a fantastic days racing and spectating! The Copper Coast is one of South Australia’s premier tourist destinations, with stunning beaches and tourism opportunities, it is definitely a good excuse to head up north and get some sun!
Round 5: Victoria Park XL - October 27
Shutting down Wakefield St provides a fantastic racing opportunity for the riders with a 2.3km circuit in the heart of metropolitan Adelaide. Gravier CC realised the spectating potential last year and set up their own spectating zone coming on the corner coming off Wakefield St! This is a round designed for the participant – but is going to become a spectator favourite. A perfect day for a picnic, make sure this is on your schedule!
