Lenswood to Host Round 5 of the 2018 Super Series
For the first time ever, the roads around Lenswood will host the elite Super Series – during Round 5 of the series, on Sunday 28 October.
The only Team Time Trial on the Super Series calendar will be a spectacular event, as cyclists ride some of the most scenic roads in the Adelaide hills.
Team Time Trials are always exciting, as teams work in unison to finish with at least four of their starting eight riders to have their time recorded. For the strongest riders on the teams, it's about controlling their effort. For the weakest, it's about holding on with all that they have!
To add to the excitement, Cycling SA were sure to find a Team Time Trial course that is a little bit different – and it will certainly throw up some tactical challenges! Starting at the Lenswood Cricket Club, the course will feature the entire length of Swamp Road. Framed by apple and pear orchards, it works its way through rolling hills before taking a turn at the finish to head up Stentifords Hill. This hill is just over 1km averaging over 10%.
Cycling SA CEO Lachie Ambrose says, "We had a few goals when looking for this course. We wanted it to be close to the city, so riders could easily ride out to the start. We wanted it to be scenic, and we wanted it to be new. The inclusion of a hilltop finish is very much atypical for a TTT and will present a massive tactical dilemma for the teams. Do they hold their climbers back? Or do they fully commit on the flatter roads and hope that it pays off later? We know some people will despair when they see the profile – but with the Hillclimb being separated from the 2018 series – we feel like those with an aversion to hills have seven other rounds to make their mark."
The 2018 Super Series runs from 22 September until 9 December 2018. Entries for the series are now open and will remain open until Sunday 9 September. Register now at https://bit.ly/2L5dzOh
