The Points Race is Back Thanks to Game Ready Therapy!
For Round 4 we are back at Pakapakanthi for the Game Ready Therapy Points Race! First introduced to the Super Series in 2019, the criterium circuit points race has become a decisive round for riders wanting to shake up the overall GC standings.
The points race is electrifying viewing for spectators, as points are awarded at regular intervals after sprints. In this race, every 4 laps of Vic Park, the first rider over the line will be awarded 5 points, the second awarded 3 points, third 2 points and fourth 1 point. Double points are awarded at the finish of the final lap (10, 6, 4, 2), and the winner of the race is the one with the highest number of points at the end of the race – not necessarily the one who crosses the line first at the finish! At the end of the points Race, riders are awarded GC points based on their place in the race.
We’re over the moon to have the support of a good friend of many elite cyclists in the Adelaide racing scene and in particular our Olympians, in Dan Chudleigh of Game Ready Therapy! Winners in the Senior grades at R4 will be awarded vouchers to go and see Chuds and the team at GRT to get a sports massage from some of the best. The Game Ready Therapy team will be on hand during the day’s racing as well so you can make sure you’re performing (or recovering!) at your best.
“We all do love a Pakapakanthi Crit, but are also very conscious that over summer most road racers will do quite a few laps around the circuit. This round is just waiting for the return of the XL variant, but we will have to make do with some extra sprints and some quick mental arithmetic to make for some exciting racing until we can get the full Wakefield St closure running again.” Says AC GM of SA, Lachie Ambrose.
For this Round, the elite grades will race a regular criterium - their turn to race a points race will be the FInale!
