Welsford and Mundy Return to Defend their Titles

In exciting news for the South Australian Super Series, defending champions Sam Welsford and Jessica Mundy will be on the start line for Round One of the 2018 Series, which starts tomorrow at Victoria Park with racing from 8:00 am.Welsford went on to great things after the 2018 series. He has claimed multiple stage wins in the National Road Series, and took two Gold Medals at the Commonwealth Games. This included one of the rides of the competition where Welsford was forced to take control of the race with two laps to go before storming to victory.In the 17 series, Welsford was challenged by multiple riders, but his biggest rival for the series was the consistent Chris Luxton, who returns once more with his Lightsview teammates. Welsford is being supported by an incredibly capable team made up of the Cycling Australia’s men’s track endurance team, with Cam Scott tipped to be a likely foil to Wellsford’s capabilities.2018 Series Elite Women’s winner Jessica Mundy makes her return after spending the winter months racing in the United States. Mundy is riding for the revamped Butterfields p/b Van D’am Racing (formerly Blackchrome-MercedesBenz Adelaide), and will have several incredibly capable teammates joining her on the start line. The experienced duo of Gemma Kernich and Jenny Macpherson will be riding of support, and both are expected to take their own opportunities as well in the series.Racing will be hard and fast from the earliest categories, with significantly expanded fields across the whole competition. Cat 2 Masters/Cat 3 Men has swollen considerably, with nine teams taking to the start line.
